I saw the First Nation canoes from our boat when we were docked in Nanaimo. I have always been interested in Indians as I grew up with them in northern British Columbia. We lived in a small village near the Alaska Highway. My father was a fur trader with the Indians in the late '30's and 40's. He went up the old Fot Nelson Trail (which became the Alaska Highway) by dog sled and sometimes with a team of horses. Many times Indians slept in our store when they came to town.
My father was one of the few traders who would not sell the Indians liquor.

I am so happy to see the pride that the First Nation people have developed in the last few years.

I was very happy to hear you speak on KUOW about your experience.

Kurt, I just listened to your interview on KUOW and I was quite inspired. I'm a new paddler and relatively new resident of the Puget Sound area, and I'm glad I've discovered your treasure-trove of a blog. May I link to you?
