Note from Kurt: I’ve just returned to Puget Sound from a great summer in Alaska, including lots of good work on the Keene Channel Lodge to prepare it for the kayaking season, and finishing the draft manuscript on my book The Circumference of Home at the same time, which is due out next April.

Our Inside Passages retreats were a real success this summer, working out of the Keene Channel Lodge as home base, and with a two-night camping trip to the Castle Islands in the middle of the week. Gordon Peerman was my “peerless” co-leader for these two retreats, and Emi Morgan did excellent work as my assistant guide and cook for the week.

The blend of morning meditation, afternoon paddles, and evening explorations gave a good balance to the trips, including a three-day excursion to Cloverleaf Island in Duncan Canal for a camping experience at the wilder end of the spectrum.

Dates for next summer’s retreats are being finalized now, and plans are in the works for at least three retreats from mid-July through mid-August.
