Mission
Inside Passages enlists wilderness as a neglected ally in our effort to heal the growing rift between inner and outer ecology. Through the vehicle of kayak journeys in Southeast Alaska, we invite the natural world back to the center of our conversation about human purpose and destiny in the 21st Century.
We affirm that our personal restoration and the restoration of the natural world are bound together. We will not work to save that which we do not love. And we cannot truly love that with which we are not intimate. Such intimacy requires a new kind of attentiveness, and a wider spectrum of emotional and spiritual intelligence.
For millennia human beings have entered the wild as a vehicle of self-transformation. The exploration of our own inner habitat of heart and mind is amplified by our immersion in the power of wild nature itself.
By linking direct experience of the wild with time-honored practices of contemplative inquiry, Inside Passages restores ancient bonds of kinship with nature that have always been essential to human health, balanced living, and wise action in the world.
