I just finished reading your book moments ago. It is one of the most moving books I have read. Your weaving together of urgency on climate change, meditative practice, love of nature, of home, of where you have been with where you hope to go, is truly beautiful. I put the book down many times, or picked it up to read passages to my teenage daughter, for the same reason — I so much appreciated your sharing your passion for life on earth, and your life on earth, with anyone fortunate enough to find your book.  -  (J.S., The Bronx, N.Y.)

“Congratulations on writing such a beautiful, well-paced tale of your year of circumference. I had expected an account of how you managed everyday life without a car; instead, I found a lyrical, honest, and compelling story of your deeply personal odyssey of body and mind in an alternately beautiful and hostile world. Wow!” (P.B., Pittsburgh, PA)

“I’ve been reading Circumference of Home this past week – it’s amazing! I am so impressed with the weave of personal and regional stories, connections at so many levels. . . Circumference has been passing around our office – you’ve got a lot of new fans here as well.” (S.W., Bellingham, WA)

“I finished your book yesterday afternoon.  I want you to know how much I thoroughly enjoyed it, was challenged by it and so appreciated the journey you have been on . . .  The environmental concerns you conveyed were obviously the most important aspect of the book, but I was also continually impressed with the beauty and depth of your writing style.” (A.O., Sun Valley, Idaho)

“Kurt Hoelting’s writing is reflective, honest and never sentimental about “the wilderness” — as if it were something separate from us urbanites. He is a hardy activist who puts his feet where his mouth is, a heart-felt, tender observer with fierce convictions. Hoelting embraces all kinds of learning in each reflective moment — and while most are deadly serious, some of these experiences are really funny. I respect his capacity as a writer to be at once fragile and courageous in this year-long adventure where he couples his eco-ethics, social commentary and mindfulness practices. His experiment to resist making any carbon footprint is outrageous, inspiring and inviting, even to the less-committed, like myself.
This is a timely read. Don’t miss it.” (J.M., Bainbridge Is., WA)

“I am reading your book, The Circumference of Home, and I feel like I am meeting someone from my Home!!!  The subject matter and the way you express yourself speaks to my heart and soul, and makes me feel a little less lonely in this mad world.” (H.R., Sequim, WA)

“I’m nearly done with “Circumference”. You’ve done a great good thing and left us all a positive, readable, and enjoyable antidote to the pervasive sense of cynicism and helplessness that affects so many good people.” (E.L., Seattle)
